Welcome to “A Conversation With a Poet,” an exclusive series where we delve into the minds and musings of contemporary poets. Each session is a journey into the personal and creative realms of a poet, exploring their inspirations, processes, and the profound impact poetry has on their lives. Through these interviews, I aim to uncover the unique voices that share across stanzas and stir the soul, offering my readers a glimpse into the artistry and emotional depth that poetry embodies. Join us as we celebrate the power of words and the poets who craft them.

Eve Sanchez, a 38-year-old poet from Arizona, has been incorporating poetry into her life since 2011. A gifted lyricist, Eve brings a touch of magic to her work, teaching poetry through the Spanish language and nurturing creativity in both her fellow poets, and her own children.
Poetry Background
What inspired you to begin writing poetry?
I was challenged to write a poem and I was able to because I am a huge poetry lover.
Who are your favorite poets, and how have they influenced your work?
My favorite poet is José Martí and other Latin American poets who have inspired me greatly. It is their poetry which I read so much which inspired me. Marti poetry taught me depth and soul in poetry as well as well meaning poetry and beautiful imagery.
Creative Process
Can you describe your writing process? How do you typically start a poem?
I write in an inspired way. Whatever comes to mind. I have trained myself to think poems, and I might be channeling as well.
Do you have any rituals or environments that enhance your creativity?
No but I need some now
How often do you write, and do you have specific times of day that you find more productive?
I write every day with very few exceptions (sick, family, emergency) I write at all ti.es of day
Themes and Motivation
What themes or subjects do you find yourself returning to in your poetry? Why?
Love – Romance is most inspirational to me
What is the most challenging aspect of writing poetry for you?
Sharing the deepest feelings I have.
What do you hope to communicate or evoke in your readers?
I want to help people dream about love, and upgrade love in the world.
Publication and Sharing
Have you published your poetry? If so, in what formats (books, online, magazines, etc.)?
Online blogs, social media, ebooks, PDFs, audios, videos
How do you feel about sharing your poetry with the public?
I love it now that I have been doing this for years
What has been the most rewarding or memorable response to your work?
Inspiring others to write their own poems
Creative Challenges and Overcoming Them
Describe a time when you experienced writer’s block and how you overcame it.
I experience writer’s block when I’m feeling emotionally unwell and the fastest way out of it is to read poetry if a hug is unavailable.
Have you ever been dissatisfied with a poem you wrote? How did you revise it or deal with the dissatisfaction?
I have deleted poems I didn’t care for but I don’t take it too seriously, I focus on the pieces I love
Community and Collaboration
Are you part of any poetry communities or groups? How do these communities influence your work?
I am a part of several communities of poets in Facebook and X. I also run a community on Facebook called Alma Poeta and the influence from there has been beautiful collaborations between poets.
Have you ever collaborated with other poets or artists? What was that experience like?
I have for years collaborated with poets. The easiest way through poetry prompts but also collaborating the way musicians do was my dream and I’ve accomplished it.
Most recently I wrote a short poem as a flower seller called “I sell flowers” and an awesome poet from our community, wrote a reply in an awesome poem with a significantly different voice which was perfect since it was a response poem.
In his poem, he replied he wanted to buy a dozen but not roses. He requested other flowers because roses though beautiful scare him because unexpectedly they can prick your soul.
Influence and Inspiration
Besides poets, what other sources of inspiration do you draw from? (e.g., music, art, nature)
Music, art, nature, history, family
Will you share a poem you’ve written and explain the story or inspiration behind it?
Foods
Some feed your density,
Some feed your soul,
Easy choice.
It’s a kind of response to haters of my eating habits, I guess. I have a few haters in my normal personal life.
Future Aspirations
What are your goals as a poet for the next few years?
I am a storyteller and I’m very proud to say that I’m writing a story which I intend to publish as my first book.
Are there new themes or styles you are interested in exploring?
Romantasy. My story is about a captive siren who falls in love and it’s a dance between love and the darkness.
Advice and Reflections
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in poetry?
Be you, authentic and raw and share your poetry unapologetically.
How has writing poetry impacted your life personally and professionally?
I am most confident, bold, and interesting now. I used to be “shy and quiet” now I am intriguing to people
